In the game, shouts can be extremely powerful if used right, and there are a lot of them you can use to your advantage. You can use shouts to command creatures to help you in battle or to stun your enemies.
Where Do You Learn Shouts?
You can learn shouts in gameplay by absorbing them, but only one at a time. You can collect them at the many Word Walls found throughout the Skyrim world.
As you visit the Word Walls you will collect the words of power needed for each shout in order. This means that no matter which wall you visit, you will get the first, second and third word needed in order, so there’s no need to wander around aimlessly to collect random words!
So what…how do I shout in Skyrim?
Ok, here’s exactly how you can learn how to shout in Skyrim for an added edge to defeat your enemies and cause havoc wherever you go.
As you learn each word you will need to unlock it to use it. To do this, you will need a dragon soul which you can only get by slaying dragons. This means of course that you must complete the Main Quest: Dragon Rising in order to learn to shout!
After you learn the first word and unlock it with a dragon soul you may start to shout. To be able to shout in a more powerful manner you must obtain more dragon souls to unlock each of the three power words.
If you want to learn all 3 words for all 5 shouts, you will need a total of 15 dragon souls, so it is wise to only invoke the shouts that you think you will use the most.

How to use the shouts.
- Level 1 Shout: Tap the shout button, one word and exhale. This shout is the least powerful but it can be recharged quickly.
- Level 2 Shout: Hold the button for a brief second then release it, speak two words inhale and then exhale to use the medium level shout.
- Level 3 Shout: Hold the shout button, 3-words…inhale, inhale then exhale. Since this shout is the most powerful of the 3, it will take the most time to recharge so use it wisely.
